Jumpsuits aka Rompers aka Play suits are back. This look was big in 2009 , but the trend is here to stay. Over the years this garment has evolved and is now available in even hotter versions and variant patterns. The origin of jumpsuits stems from the suit made for parachuter’s and skydivers, tailored for skydiving and similar uses. Later this piece has evolved into a wonderful fashion statement and is being considered a must have in every woman’s fashion wish list.
What is a Jumpsuit?
A Jumpsuit is a one piece garment with sleeves and legs.It can either be long (a jumpsuit) or short (a romper) and is available in various prints and patterns.
Getting it right with a Jumpsuit
Mastering a jumpsuit isn’t difficult if worn as per one’s body type.
1. For the Skinny body .
Fitted jumpsuits look good on skinny body types if worn wisely.
- A fitted satin jumpsuit is a show stealer and perfect for parties. If you are skinny and short, wearing a pair of high heels and a big neck piece (provided the jumpsuit is a low neck) can make the garment more interesting, and can drive attention from the legs and hands.
- Pear shape women should stay away from fitted jumpsuits as it tends to accentuate, the problem areas like thighs and hips.
- Fitted jumpsuits look interesting if worn with the right accessories. Like above skinny body types can draw attention to their slender figure, by wearing the right accessories like the neck piece and high heels above. The umbrella sleeves too add a distinct flavour to the look without making the garment look too simple.
- Apple shaped women can draw attention to their legs, by wearing a short romper, with long sleeves. The above romper can also camouflage the problem areas of these body types like flabby arms or a paunch.
- Wearing ruffles around problem areas, is yet another option for the apple shaped. But this look works only if you are trying to camouflage the paunch.
- The safest bet for pear shaped body types is a wide legged jumpsuit that draws attention from the lower body, giving a slimmer look.
- A short romper like above would suit the pear shaped, giving an stylish edge to the wearer.
Gypsy’s Look book
The Day Look
For the day, it is advisable to wear a floral jumpsuit or a romper. Team it with minimal accessories and you are ready for a Sunday brunch with friends or for a shopping spree with you girlfriends. Keep the accessories limited to chunky bangles, a simple belt or a neck piece, keep all the bling away. For the day wear keep all satin and sequined jumpsuits away, and look for single, light and floral coloured play suits.
The Night Look
A satin jumpsuit suits best for parties and night outs. You can also try a revealing romper / jumpsuit for the night look you can experiment with lots of accessories like a hat below and make your outfit even more glamorous. Lot of solid colours, bold make up and jewellery, work for the night. But it is always advisable to keep away all floral and printed jumpsuits for the night as it gives an overall casual look to the wearer.
Celebrity Pick-
Gypsy’s celebrity pick for this trend is our own Malaika Arora Khan. If anybody possesses the license to kill by looks she sure does, with her style. Dressed in a silver white romper and matching footwear she does total justice to her romper. The makeup is minimal and zero accessories except a black bag. We are totally in <3 with the look.
Gypsy’s Rating * * * * * 5/5
We just couldn’t find a single flaw. <3 u Malaika !
WHAT WAS THAT??
Katie Holmes in a white jumpsuit with a black lace, netted top underneath. And pointed heels. The cut of the outfit and the colour does nothing for her figure and her complexion. Too sad Katie looks like she’s just auditioned for a role in the next Harry Potter movie.
Jumpsuits are big this season and gypsywearspink simply loves these. The rains are a perfect season to experiment with these lovely printed, floral rompers/jumpsuits, pair them with monsoon flip flops and a transparent raincoat and you are ready for the monsoons.
Thanks for reading.
Till my next post….Stay Ravishing :) :)
